#occupywallstreet: NYT says Mayors Across Nation Looking to Shut Down Occupy → occupywallstreet.tumblr.com

intelligentsia-in-flames:

The New York Times had a wide ranging report on the view of the Occupy movement from Mayors across the country. They claim that many of the Mayors of “several cities have come to the end of their patience and others appear to be not far behind.”

Point 1: The…

The Tyger

(William Blake, Songs of Experience, 1794)

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Just another comic tragedy . . .

Watching the Skins play Philly today is like watching a three-legged cat bury a turd on a frozen pond.

A letter from Roy Warden, of Arizona Common Sense

OCCUPY TUCSON, THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

You, the members of the Occupy Tucson Movement, are about to embark upon a grand adventure and the continuation of the American Revolution, first declared in 1776 and later reaffirmed in the 1950’s and 1960’s by the Civil Rights Movement.

Your forefathers fought with muskets and cannon so that you may now fight with words and civil actions, but in the end your goal is the same: the transformation of American society, so that justice will prevail and government of, by and for the people may not perish from this earth.

Conduct yourselves with dignity.

Steep yourselves in the wisdom gained by the Civil Rights Movement, for these folks paid a bitter price in blood, sweat and tears to secure the right to use the techniques you now employ.

As to the eternal struggle between right and wrong, rich and poor read Theodore Roosevelt, the Progressive Party, and the Transformation of American Democracy. In that singular book you will learn the intellectual premise which now sets the foundation for your present movement.

Act with courage.

Educate yourselves. Beware seduction and the honeyed words of politicians and others who would guide you and incorporate you into existing movements.

Remain populist and non-partisan. Don’t reject the lessons of history. You have seized the moment and center stage. In the years to come you will fully come to appreciate  that this is, indeed, your finest hour.

Greetings from another generation! Viva la revolucion!

PORTLAND (Letter from Paul VanDevelder to friends/colleagues after Portland Rally)

Hey Gregg, et.al.,  I gotta say, joining the Occupy Portland rally yesterday was one of the most energizing things I’ve done in a long time.  Myself, a good friend who organized the Mad as Hell Doctors campaign, and two other late-stage activists hopped in the van yesterday morning, having no idea what we’d find when we got there.
